The Dockside, Mowbray, Southbank and Howard Smith Wharves Ferry Terminal Projects formed part of a broader program to upgrade and modernise river-based public transport infrastructure. The objective of the works was to improve passenger safety, accessibility, operational reliability and resilience of ferry terminals operating in high-use, urban river environments.
We were engaged by the Brisbane City Council to deliver specialist marine and wharf infrastructure works across multiple locations, demonstrating consistency of performance, adaptability to differing site constraints and the ability to deliver repeatable outcomes for public transport assets. Across the four ferry terminals, our scope included the construction, upgrade and renewal of critical marine and structural elements necessary to support modern ferry operations.
Typical works undertaken included:
- Construction and refurbishment of wharf structures, pontoons and associated marine elements, all of which were locally sourced and fabricated.
- Installation of structural components designed to accommodate tidal variation, vessel berthing loads and passenger movements.
- Integration of marine structures with access gangways, services and passenger interface elements.
- Works undertaken within live transport environments, maintaining public safety and operational continuity.
We successfully delivered the works across multiple sites with varying river conditions, access constraints and stakeholder interfaces. Key performance outcomes included:
- Safe delivery of marine works in close proximity to passengers, vessels and adjacent public spaces.
- Effective sequencing and staging to minimise disruption to ferry services and surrounding precincts.
- Consistent quality outcomes across all terminals, ensuring uniform performance standards and long-term durability.
- The ability to mobilise efficiently between sites and apply standardised construction methodologies was central to achieving reliable delivery outcomes across the program.
The ferry terminal works highlighted our strengths in:
- Delivery of public transport marine infrastructure in urban river environments.
- Managing tidal, hydraulic and navigation constraints while maintaining programme certainty.
- Coordinating with multiple stakeholders, including transport operators, asset owners and local authorities.
- Our experience in constructing and upgrading ferry terminals ensures assets are designed and built for high-frequency use, durability and passenger safety, supporting reliable public transport operations.
The new and upgraded ferry terminals at Dockside, Mowbray, Southbank and Howard Smith Wharves provide improved passenger amenity, safer access and enhanced operational performance for river ferry services. Collectively, the projects demonstrate our capability to deliver repeatable, high-quality marine infrastructure outcomes across multiple sites within live operational environments.
