Snowy Hydro Gas Power Station, Laverton – Victoria

The Snowy Hydro Gas Power Plant at Laverton was a critical fast-start generation asset supporting grid stability, peak demand response and energy security within the National Electricity Market. The facility provides dispatchable power that complements renewable generation and strengthens system reliability.

We were engaged by Siemens to deliver specialist civil, structural and heavy-industrial works, including complex plant interface activities, within a live and highly regulated energy infrastructure environment. Our scope of works included:

  • Construction of reinforced concrete foundations and structural slabs to support gas turbine and balance-of-plant equipment.
  • Delivery of civil works designed to accommodate heavy loads, vibration, and strict operational tolerances.
  • Dismantling a defective existing gas turbine vent stack, including controlled removal activities and erection of a new gas turbine vent stack, involving precision lifting, alignment and structural integration.
  • Coordination with mechanical, electrical and process contractors to manage complex interfaces and sequencing.

The works were undertaken within an operationally sensitive, high-risk industrial environment, requiring rigorous planning, safety management and technical precision. Key delivery outcomes included:

  • Safe and controlled dismantling and replacement of the gas turbine vent stack with no disruption to surrounding assets.
  • High-quality construction of critical structural elements underpinning long-term plant reliability.
  • Effective management of heavy lifts and plant movements within constrained site conditions.
  • Strong safety performance and compliance with Snowy Hydro’s stringent operational and quality standards.

The Laverton project demonstrated our capability in:

  • Delivering civil and structural works for complex energy and power generation facilities.
  • Executing high-risk heavy-industrial activities, including stack dismantling and erection.
  • Managing construction interfaces with live plant, heavy mechanical equipment and specialist contractors.
  • Providing durable, high-performance infrastructure that supports critical national energy assets.
  • Our ability to integrate structural construction with complex plant modification works significantly reduced delivery risk and enhanced overall project outcomes.

The successful completion of our scope at the Snowy Hydro Gas Power Plant, including the replacement of the gas turbine vent stack, has strengthened the facility’s operational capability and long-term reliability. The project reinforces our reputation for delivering technically demanding, safety-critical energy infrastructure projects in live operational environments.
